All People

A hopeful poem written during lockdown

By Kate Laister-Smith

Put a rainbow in your window darling,

Even if your hands tremble or shake.

Bring smiles to each face that passes,

When tears are making you ache.

Put a rainbow in your window darling,

Even if it seems futile to do so.

It will deliver joy to those who see it,

When sadness is making us so low.

Put a rainbow in your window darling,

And believe me, I know it is hard.

But laughter will slip from lips,

When all we can feel is scarred.

Put a rainbow in your window darling,

Each you add will make you feel brand new.

You will wake each day with blossoming hope,

When the rainbows are helping us get through.
