01. Introduction

In the heart of Scotland, there's a growing movement, led by Creative Changemakers at Articulate Cultural Trust, that's all about standing up for the rights and future happiness of young people who've been in care. These inspiring young creatives are using the arts to draw attention to a difference they want to see made.

Recently, they hosted their second event about making sure Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is respected. This Article says every child and young person should be free to get involved in arts and culture.  Their THIRTY-ONE event happened at a big moment in Scotland's history, as the UN rights have just become part of Scottish law.

At the event, there were loads of different artists, some who'd been in care themselves and some who hadn't. They ran workshops where you could get creative, feel better and find a voice through the arts. The imaginative and creative sessions were important for sparking discussions about why the arts matter.

Young people who care about making change, came together with people from creative organisations and artists, all determined to stand up for these rights. Friendships were made and plans were started to push for better access to the arts. But the event is just the start of an ongoing conversation about Article 31 and why it's important to the Creative Changemakers, Articulate and to children and young people all over the world.

This e-zine, Issue 9 of Culture 360, showcases some of the beautiful and thoughtful artworks that were created through the event.  Appreciate and enjoy what has been made and said.  Share the pieces that speak to you most, build awareness of this growing campaign and join a growing movement spearheaded by these amazing creatives from care.
